What is a DNS SOA record? (Start of Authority)

The ‘start of authority’ record can store important info about the domain.

SOA record is a DNS Resource Record as a kind of documentary record.

It contains the admin email address of the person responsible and a few other values such as serial number, refresh, retries, expiry, etc.

Example of an SOA record:

example.comrecord type:value:TTL
@SOAadmin.example.com11200

The value here represents an email address, which can be confusing because it’s missing the ‘@’ sign, but in an SOA record, admin.example.com is the equivalent of [email protected].
